Art & Design
At the Meadows Primary School we recognise that Art and Design stimulates creativity and imagination. It enables children of all abilities to communicate what they see, feel and think of the world around them. Through a balanced approach of techniques we offer a structured and sequenced set of lessons to help teachers ensure they have covered the knowledge and skills required to meet the aims of the national curriculum. The intent is to ensure all pupils produce creative, imaginative work. Children will have the opportunity to explore their ideas and record their experiences, as well as exploring the work of others and evaluate different creative ideas, enhancing their critical abilities and resilience. Children will become confident and proficient in a variety of crafts and techniques including collage, drawing, painting, photography, printing, sculpting and textiles.
Children will also develop their knowledge of famous artists, designers and craft makers.
During the progression of their knowledge and skills the children will have the opportunity to ask questions and demonstrate their understanding in a variety of ways. The lessons will offer the chance for children to develop their emotional expression through art to further enhance their personal, social and emotional development. They will also develop an understanding of their own and others’ cultural heritages through the study of a diverse range of artists.
