Circle Time/ PSHE
At The Meadows, our circle time is built around the concept of a spiral curriculum, visiting themes relevant to SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural) development at different ages and with varied complexity and depth. It includes ‘Big Questions’, games and activities to stimulate the discussion, the practice and the reflection that is important to the development of the whole child; head, heart and hands or what they think, feel and do.
During circle time in class, children are given the opportunity to talk about their feelings, opinions and then discuss topics together in a safe and nurturing environment. Our ultimate goal is to work in a restorative way, meaning we aim to reach a positive resolution where all parties are ready to repair relationships, taking responsibility for their actions. We focus on the importance of listening to each other and, working as a team. As a result, we aim for our children to then inject this level of positivity to both school and outside of school life.
Our circle time is structured around core values that each and every class form at the beginning of the year. Children are picked at random at the end of a circle time to receive a certificate with comments on from their peers that they have chosen.
As a school we pride ourselves in working in a restorative way, always keeping children at the heart of every decision that we make.
