Meadows Primary School

Science

Science teaching at the Meadows Primary School aims to develop a connected knowledge base where children are scientifically literate so that they are able to understand, appreciate and debate issues that affect their lives. Our curriculum ensures children are immersed within the world around them in order to promote respect for the physical environment and the view that science is valuable to society and something to aspire to.

At the Meadows Primary School, scientific enquiry skills are embedded within each topic the children study and these topics are revisited and developed throughout their time at school. Nurturing STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) through reading books and mastery experiences will promote life-long learners of science which is our aim for this core subject.

Throughout the programme of study for science, the children will acquire and develop the key knowledge that has been identified within each unit and across each year group. Cross curricular opportunities are also identified and planned to ensure contextual relevance. For example, Forest School inspires a deep and meaningful connection to the world and encourages children to become, healthy, resilient, creative and independent learners.

At the Meadows Primary School children are encouraged to ask questions and be curious about their surroundings and a love of science is nurtured through a whole school ethos and a broad and balanced science curriculum.
